My XLE storage heater is cold. How do I resolve this?

Modified on Thu, 26 Sep at 11:08 AM

 Applicable to models:  XLE050 XLE070 XLE100 XLE125 XLE150

Issue:  Heater is cold. No stored heat. Blowing cold air. Not taking a charge.

What this means:

Possible issues:
- Fuse could have blown in local isolation switch

- These products should not be on 13A fused spur for the off peak supply, if this is the case your installer needs to reattend. The off-peak supply must be on a 20A Double Pole switch. (Note the peak / daytime supply should be on a Double Pole switch).

- Incorrect time/temperature settings.

- Incorrect current date/time set on heater

- Heater Covered or obstructed.

Action: If determined not an installation or user issue then raise a ticket below.

If possible you should check the following items and if they are not correct you should contact your installer prior to raising a ticket for a service call.

  • Have the breakers in your consumer unit switched/tripped off?  (switch back on if they have)
  • Check that the switches controlling the supplies to your product are on
    • There should be a switch (unfused) for the off peak supply
    • The continuous supply should not be on a 3 pin plug
  • Are the supply cables different sizes, off peak supply should be on a 2.5mm² cable.
  • Have you set up your heater's timer correctly? If the timer is set for too short a period or zero'ed out, then the heater will take little or no charge, so make sure each day has several hours of heat requirement.
  • Is the temperature setting correct? If the set temperature is too low, the heater will take a much lower, or no charge.
  • Is the current date & time set correctly on the heater? If the date is wrong, the heater might be assuming the season is summer rather than winter.
  • Is the heater obstructed or covered up? If a heater is covered or obstructed, it can cause the thermal cutout to trip. Testing this would require a suitably qualified person to isolate the product from the mains to then test the cut-out devices.
