Do I need to insulate my home in order to have a heat pump fitted?

Modified on Wed, 31 May, 2023 at 2:55 PM

Whilst it may be possible in some specific circumstances to install a heat pump into a poorly insulated property, it should be avoided as it can result in excessive running costs. It makes sense to insulate the property to a high standard to reduce running costs, increase comfort levels and reduce CO2 footprint.

As heat pumps are sized according to heat losses of a building, if these heat losses can be reduced sufficiently enough, it may be possible to opt for a smaller heat pump, which in turn lowers the purchase cost of the heat pump.
