My Nobo heater has a NCU1R slider thermostat and the heater gets way too hot when the Orion 700 timer is telling it to switch off.

The NCU1R thermostat slider has 2 temperatures – a “comfort” temperature which is the temperature you set on the slider when you want to be warm, and a “setback” temperature, which is a low temperature to keep the chill at bay when you do not need a lot of heat.

The Orion 700 central timer needs to tell the NCU1R thermostat what temperature to use as a “setback” temperature. You need to set this up on the Orion 700. To do this:
