Why won't my ventilation fan turn off or why is it running when it shouldn't?

If your fan is constantly running or failing to turn off when you think it should then this article is here to help.

There are a number of reasons that a fan might not turn off and this article is designed to rule out some of the basic common causes we have experienced over our many years of manufacturing fans.

It is important that the model number is checked as there are some fans which are designed to run constantly. These fans are commonly called Constant Volume fans or trickle fans. They are designed to run at a lower extract rate while still meeting the required air changes per hour.

We have two types of fans that are designed to run in this way.

Constant Volume Axial Fans

The easiest way to identify our Constant Volume fans which have model numbers containing CV for example CV4SR or LVCV4SR. As these fans are designed to run 24/7 this would not be considered a fault with the product. If you do not require a constant volume fan, then we would recommend looking at an intermittent model instead.

Centrifugal Models with a Trickle Feature

Some of our centrifugal models have a feature called trickle which allows the fan to run continuously. If you have a centrifugal fan, then it is worth checking your specific products instructions and confirming the trickle feature is turned off. If you are unsure if you have a centrifugal fan then this article will help - What are the differences between Axial and Centrifugal fans

If you don't have a constant running model, we need to go through some specifics about your fan. Choose the suitable article from the below. . If you need help identifying your fan please refer to this article - Identifying my fan model
