What is the nomenclature behind some of the heat pump model numbers?

Modified on Tue, 16 Jul at 2:50 PM

Heat pumps are typically named as follows:

  • L        =       Air Source Heat Pump
  • S       =       Ground Source Heat Pump
  • W      =      Water Source Heat pump

  • I        =       Internally Installed Unit
  • A       =       Externally Installed Unit

  • Number   =       kW rating under test conditions

  • M     =       Single phase supply
  • A       =       Three phase supply
  • T       =       Three phase supply
  • K       =       Compact units, integrated components
  • H       =       High temperature heat pump
  • U      =       High efficiency heat pumps
  • R       =       Reversible – heating & cooling
  • I        =       Inverter
  • P       =       Propane
  • S       =       WPM controller separate from heat pump
  • E       =       WPM controller enclosed within heat pump

Example

LA 11MS            L        =       Air source heat pump

                             A       =       Externally installed

                             11     =       11kW in specified test conditions

                             M     =       Single phase supply (mono-phase)

                             S       =       Separate WPM controller

Since introducing further models to the range, additional notation has been adopted as follows:
