Why is my plug hot? Or showing signs of burning?

Modified on Tue, 4 Oct, 2022 at 3:24 PM

This more frequently occurs (but not exclusively) on 3kW products as the current is near the max rating of the fuse and the plug.

Root Cause           Not all plug reported issues are because the plug is the root cause, and those below must be always considered carefully but particularly when the failure is relating to a plug which is not being used on a 3kW product.

Other possible causes are:

Product being used for anything other than occasional use and not continual use (From instructions: As with all portable heating appliances: This product is suitable only for well insulated spaces or occasional use)

Faulty (loose contact between socket and plug pins) 13A socket

Used with an extension lead

Plug Related

Loose connections

Connections overtightened

Cut strands to internal connectors

Fake fuse

Underrated fuse

Actions             Check usage – ensure only being used for occasional use in well insulated spaces.

Ensure not being used on extension lead

Ensure the cable on product is completely unwound from any cable tidy
